Your top 4 activities for a day in Amsterdam

Amsterdam – That you are having a long layover in Schiphol o you are planning a day trip, Amsterdam can offer a multitude of activities for all pockets.

We have tried to shape the best activities to do in 24 hours, and after 18 kilometers on foot and more than 1400 kilocalories burnt, we can happily say that it is possible to do a lot.

What to do

  1. Van Gogh Museum – Address – (Entry ticket 19 EUR)

It doesn’t matter which area of the world you are from because the name of Van Gogh is well known. Inside the museum, you can have a look at Van Gogh’s classics following his artistic timeline. From his early self-portraits taken since the cost of the models back in the days was very high, to the more know Sunflowers or Crowfield, the museum offer this and much more. We advise you to take the 3 EUR audio guide to understand more about the different paints and Van Gogh’s history. Despite there being some information near the paintings, the audio guide enriches the story helping you to focus on some details that would be otherwise lost.

Be sure to book in advance your tickets since the entry is per time slot and they fill very quickly.

2. Moco Museum – Address – (Entry ticket 19 EUR)

Modern art is not for everyone, but I’m sure that everyone will love Moco Museum. From the outside, the Modern & Contemporary Art Museum looks like an old Dutch house, blending perfectly with the surroundings of the Museumplein. However, it is inside that the magic happens. Starting from the top floor with the works of XXX going all the way down where you can see authentic Banskys finishing with a glow exhibition made with lights and mirrors. Moco is without hesitation an experience for everyone that will give you the possibility to understand more about the different artists and enjoy something completely different from Van Gogh or other museums in Amsterdam. The museum make a great job offering a free audio guide and mixing some awesome AR effects near the XX works.

The outside garden is free to visit by everyone, but we warmly recommend buying the entry ticket and having fun.

Bonus point: Since it is literally next door to the Van Gogh Museum, it is good to visit these museums one after the other.

3. Heineken Experience – (Entry ticket 21 EUR)

Who doesn’t know the famous beer brand, Heineken? Whether you know it (and maybe taste it) or not, this doesn’t matter. The Heineken experience is the place to discover more and have fun with friends and family. Inside you can discover the history of the brand, how a beer is brewed, and have fun with the different experiences available from some free souvenir pictures to a personalized Heineken beer bottle. If you are thinking that 21 EUR is too much, no worries your desire for beer will be satisfied with 2 pints and half of freshly brewed golden Heineken at the end of the tour.

Bonus point: The Heineken Experience is only 10 mins walk from Moco and Van Gogh Museum so you might want to combine together to save time on transportation.

4. Canal Cruise by Lovers – (Ticket for 15 EUR)

Curious to see the town from a different perspective? Then jump on a canal cruise and be amazed by the multiple stories around every corner. You can conveniently take the canal cruise from the Amsterdam Central Station and enjoy 60 minutes of wandering in the different canals of Amsterdam. From the Nemo Museum to the Flower Market, the experience is a must.
